Friend—I’m reaching out to make sure you didn’t miss our earlier email about holding our government accountable for the war in Afghanistan. After 20 years of fighting, tens of thousands of lives lost, and $2 trillion spent, we can’t let our government off the hook for such a disaster. And we can’t let it happen again. We haven’t even begun getting to the bottom of everything that went wrong during our failed two-decade war, and those in power are already trying to gear up for the next one. [That’s why this is so important, Friend: Please, before 11:59 p.m., will you sign on to our petition demanding accountability for our government’s failures in Afghanistan? We're just 265 signatures shy of our goal, and we need to know you're with us.]( SIGN NOW]( This is our moment. We can’t wait another few decades for the next ill-fated, calamitous war to wrap up before we make a stand. It has to be now. Thank you for joining us in this fight. Project on Government Oversight Here's the email we sent you earlier this week: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, After 20 years of fighting, thousands of lives lost, and $2 trillion spent—the U.S. government needs to be held accountable for the failed effort in Afghanistan. [Sign this petition from the Project on Government Oversight now: Hold the U.S. government and politicians accountable for war in Afghanistan.]( SIGN NOW]( During the war in Afghanistan, we spent $83 billion to train and equip military and security forces that were supposed to be permanent. Instead, the Afghan government fell to the Taliban in a mere 11 days. And after all that fighting, all that money, and all those sacrifices, we need answers. Let’s get one thing clear—the war needed to end. But after a two-decade reconstruction effort in the country, the public deserves to know what led to the quick collapse of the Afghan government and military. We must also learn what’s happened to our Afghan allies in the country who were left behind in the evacuation effort, and where government leaders erred when planning the final withdrawal from the country. So to honor those who served and those who lost their lives in this war and this withdrawal, and to avoid similar disasters in the future, we need to know what went wrong. And we need to stop our government from allowing it to happen again—instead of letting politicians point fingers and continue funding senseless wars like business as usual. POGO is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that investigates and exposes waste, corruption, abuse of power, and so much more. We’re going to hold the U.S. government accountable for the flawed effort in Afghanistan, but we need you with us. We haven’t even begun to get to the bottom of what went wrong in the 20 years leading up to our botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, which means we need to act now if we’re going to prevent it from happening again. [So please, sign our petition right now: Hold the U.S. government and politicians accountable for the disastrous U.S. war in Afghanistan.]( [SIGN NOW]( Thanks, POGO Paid for by Project on Government Oversight.
