[Sign the petition demanding an end to billions of dollars in fossil fuel subsidies.]( [SIGN ON]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, The most definitive scientific report ever on climate change, just released by the United Nations, warns that the climate crisis is accelerating in unprecedented and irreversible ways. The U.N. chief António Guterres calls the report–which was approved by 195 governments and based on more than 14,000 studies–"a code red for humanity. "The alarm bells are deafening," he said. "This report must sound a death knell for coal and fossil fuels, before they destroy our planet." Yet, the U.S. government gives away $20 billion each year to subsidize the deadly fossil fuel industry. Worldwide, fossil fuel subsidies hit a staggering $500 billion annually. [Tell President Biden and Congress to stop billions in taxpayer money going to subsidize fossil fuels and press the world to do the same.]( [SIGN ON]( Immediate action is needed to stop the climate crisis, which is responsible for record-breaking wildfires, storms, droughts, and many health problems and deaths. The fossil fuel industry is one of the biggest contributors to rising temperatures globally. The U.S. must immediately end the $20 billion in government subsidies we give to massive fossil fuel corporations like ExxonMobil and Shell–and encourage countries around the world to invest in a sustainable future. This global problem requires a global solution. Everyone can see the increase in severity of flooding, storms, heat, drought, and wildfires, but this is about more than burning forests and rising oceans. We're on the brink of a mass extinction of species and widespread human suffering, with the worst impacts hitting poorer countries and marginalized communities in the U.S. and other wealthy nations. But we can prevent the worst of the climate crisis by coming together to pressure lawmakers to rein in the fossil fuel industry and transition us to an economy and society that places the planet before profits.
