Friend, last week the [U.S. Census]( released their nationwide demographic data to states, kicking off the redrawing of congressional districts. Unfortunately, just as after 2010, Republicans will dominate the process in key states like Georgia, Texas, Florida, and North Carolina; being able to [draw two to three times as many congressional districts]( as Democrats. With Republican control of the redistricting process in so many states, it's possible that they could literally gerrymander their way to a majority in the House by redrawing district lines. [Gerrymandering has been overshadowed by Republicans' recent and blatant voter suppression tactics, but it is just as harmful to our democracy. Daily Kos has a long history of reporting on the often byzantine redistricting process that can lead to gerrymandering, of analyzing data and presenting it in easy-to-understand ways, while also advocating for fairer elections through elections reforms and breaking Republicans' grip on power. We can't do any of this without you, though. Can you give $5 today so we can continue our hard work?]( [DONATE]( At Daily Kos Elections, we report on the latest developments in redistricting and voting rights, producing analysis that shows just how powerful gerrymandering can be with real examples. Our own Stephen Wolf has spent several years drawing [nonpartisan congressional maps for every single state]( to estimate the partisan and [racial impacts of gerrymandering](. One of his proposed redistricting maps was even chosen by the [governor of Maryland's commission to redraw]( an actual congressional gerrymander that was under litigation. Further, since 2016, the Daily Kos Election team has published a free, weekly [Daily Kos Voting Rights Roundup]( newsletter that recaps each week's news on the right to vote, redistricting, campaign finance, and electoral reform. When legislatures are in session and passing laws, litigation is ongoing in state or federal court, or when elected officials or administrators take action that affects access to the ballot box, they are on top of it to help shine a light on how these developments impact democracy. Daily Kos Elections conducts all of this analysis on gerrymandering in the public interest for fairer elections, and they're consequently bringing it to you for free. As the next redistricting cycle approaches, we aim to continue doing top-notch redistricting analysis and working to fight gerrymandering so that elections can remain fair. However, this reporting, analysis, and advocacy for fairer elections takes a ton of time-consuming work, and we can't do it without your help. [The Daily Kos Elections team is a vital part of the Daily Kos community, helping to bring you the latest news on how we can protect voting rights and fight gerrymandering.
