Friend, Senate Republicans have once again blocked the For the People Act. In some ways, I barely know what else to say about it. I am angry that a minority of the Senate can keep silencing American voters, even though the majority of us want the protections in the For the People Act. We want to have easy access to the ballot, the freedom to vote no matter our race or geography, for politicians to earn our votes instead of manipulating them through gerrymandering, for our elected officials to be accountable to us instead of whichever donors can line their pockets. We know what's wrong â and WHO is wrong â in our democracy, and that the For the People Act can help fix it. The For the People Act still has a path forward: the Senate MUST overcome the filibuster and take up this bill as a first priority in September. Call Senator Charles E. Schumer at (202) 224-6542 and Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand at (202) 224-4451. Demand that they fight harder and eliminate the filibuster so we can finally pass the For the People Act. Here is a message you can leave when you get an aide or voicemail:

Unfortunately, with the Senate in recess and census data set to be released this week, we have missed a major deadline â one that could have shielded us from Republican attempts to rig elections by drawing up voting districts that heavily favor them. That means it is IMPERATIVE that our senators show up for the next session ready to fight like hell for our freedom to vote, for high standards for political candidates, and to keep big money out of elections. When I was a little girl, I thought the schemes that crooked politicians cooked up to block my grandparents from voting were part of a bygone era. I couldn't have imagined that the freedom to vote could feel so fragile right now. The stakes are high for all of us, but for Black and brown voters, folks in rural communities, and low-income and disabled people everywhere, voting isn't as easy as it should and could be. It is simply not an option to let the same politicians who supported an attempted overthrow of our government keep making the rules. Call Senator Charles E. Schumer at (202) 224-6542 and Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand at (202) 224-4451. Demand that they eliminate the filibuster so we can finally pass the For the People Act.
