Friend, on August 16 the Census Bureau will release data from the 2020 census so that states can begin redrawing congressional districts. That means Republican legislatures can start to gerrymander their power. We must urge the U.S. Senate to pass the For the People Act before Congress goes on recess to prevent the GOP from drawing more partisan districts that could have a lasting effect of up to 10 years. The For the People Act (S1) would put an end to partisan gerrymandering, enforce ethical standards for elected officials, modernize our voter registration process, and limit the influence of dark money on our elections. Unless we stop Congress from going on recess on August 9, we risk the GOP drawing districts that dilute the political power of communities of color for future elections, including the 2022 midterm election. Call Senator Charles E. Schumer at (202) 224-6542 and Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand at (202) 224-4451. We are again asking for your immediate support in passing the For the People Act. Here is language you can use once you call their office:

Friend, in states across the country the freedom to vote is under attack by extremist lawmakers who want to put up deliberate barriers to make it harder to vote -- especially for people of color. Countless states have aggressively passed targeted and racist voter suppression laws to make it harder for people to vote. Activists from across the country are fighting to keep our freedom to vote. Now itâs time for Congress to honor the will of the people and pass the For the People Act. We cannot let Congress go to recess until S1 is passed. Make your voice heard by urging your senator to pass the For the People Act NOW. Call Senator Charles E. Schumer at (202) 224-6542 and Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand at (202) 224-4451. Urge them to honor the will of the people and pass the For the People Act. Here is a message you can leave when you get an aide or voicemail:

The For the People Act (S1) would expand voting rights--for example, protecting early voting which has been relentlessly attacked--and limit the influence of dark money and corporate donors on our government. It would combat hyper-partisan gerrymandering, create high ethical standards for elected officials, and enforce anti-corruption measures. Ultimately, this bill would increase access to the ballot and give everyday voters a more powerful voice in our government. S1 must be passed and signed into law before the end of summer in order to go into effect before the 2022 midterms, and to prevent the drawing of hyper-partisan maps that threaten to disenfranchise voters, especially voters of color, for the next decade. Call Senator Charles E. Schumer at (202) 224-6542 and Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand at (202) 224-4451. Demand they use every legal and constitutional tool available to pass the For the People Act.
