[Did you see Oxfam America's email demanding Congress ensure that affordable, high-quality childcare is accessible to all in COVID recovery legislation? There's still time. Please add your name.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Here's the email we sent previously: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend—everyone at all stages of life needs care. It’s universal. But on average, women do three times as much unpaid care work as men, making up the majority of unpaid care workers around the world. Throughout the pandemic, women have been more likely than men to drop out of the workforce due to care responsibilities. And systemic racism compounds this: twice as many Black moms have left the workforce in the US as white moms. Now, to build back better, our government must recognize that care is critical infrastructure—just like bridges and roads. In addition to being a detriment to caregivers’ and children’s overall wellbeing, lack of high quality, affordable, and accessible childcare is keeping caregivers—particularly Black and Latinx women—out of the workforce and is a barrier to equitable economic recovery from the pandemic. [That’s why we’re asking you to join Oxfam America and call on Congress to include family and child support in COVID recovery, including affordable, quality childcare for all—sign your name now.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( No one should have to choose between bringing home an income and taking care of their babies. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the way childcare is viewed. Affordable, accessible, high-quality childcare is a public good—just like roads or bridges—that benefits us all. In the past year, Oxfam America and partners pushed for Congress to prioritize spending on the childcare industry, and the American Rescue Plan included a historic $39 billion for childcare, which helped to stabilize the industry during the pandemic. Since that victory, we’ve continued our work educating lawmakers and the public on how affordable, accessible, high-quality childcare is necessary for an equitable recovery after COVID-19. Now, we have an opportunity to fundamentally change the way care is viewed. We can’t go back to the care system before the pandemic—we must fundamentally reform the childcare industry so it’s accessible and affordable. [Sign your name now and join Oxfam America as we demand congress support the childcare industry in COVID recovery legislation.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Care is essential. Thank you for standing with Oxfam America in recognition that childcare is infrastructure that will allow for a full, equitable recovery.
