Friend, the heat wave in the Pacific Northwest is literally [melting critical infrastructure](, with cable cars in Portland shutting down this week. [Sign and send the petition to your Democratic U.S. senator(s): Climate can't wait. The infrastructure plan must include massive investments to combat climate change.]( [Sign and send the petition]( The bipartisan deal on infrastructure being pushed by U.S. senators in both parties is woefully inefficient in addressing our climate crisis. That's why we must insist that all Democratic U.S. senators support a big, bold and GREEN infrastructure bill through the budget reconciliation process which, unlike other legislation under current Senate rules, only requires a simple majority to pass. To achieve President Biden’s goal of cutting climate pollution in half by 2030, [studies have shown]( that we need $1.1 trillion in public investments over a decade for clean energy and hundreds of billions of dollars more to expand and electrify public transit and retrofit our schools and homes. Any reconciliation package must include this climate component. Triple-digit temperatures in Oregon and Washington this week are a stark reminder of what ignoring the climate crisis means for our future. We cannot afford to not invest in massive infrastructure projects that will prepare us for—and combat—the very real effects of climate change. Climate is the [largest infrastructure problem]( we face, and this week's heat wave only made it more obvious and apparent. All Democratic U.S. senators must get on board now. No climate, no deal. [Sign and send the petition to your Democratic U.S. senator(s): We can't wait for a big, bold and GREEN infrastructure bill. Climate must be at the center of the package.]( [Sign and send the petition]( Keep fighting, Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos Daily Kos Relies on Readers Like You We don't have billionaire backers like some right-wing media outlets.
