Friend, marijuana legalization profits are booming for state governments. Colorado just surpassed $10 Billion in recreational marijuana sales, with $1.7 billion in tax revenue going to public schools and infrastructure projects. Illinois, one of the first states to legalize marijuana, is projected to hit $1 Billion in revenue by end of year far exceeding alcohol sales. New York will also benefit from a historic amount of federal aid and new revenues from tax increases, the legalization of recreational marijuana, and online sports betting, totaling an estimated $26.7 billion in SFY 2021â22. With states hitting record numbers in revenue and tax sales, you would think Congress is rushing to pass federal legislation. Wrong. [Sign the petition NOW. The MORE - the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement - Act would decriminalize cannabis for adults by removing it from the list of controlled substances, eliminate related criminal penalties, and take several other major steps toward criminal justice reform, social justice, and economic development. The act has yet to be reintroduced to the House floor in this general session. However, Senators Cory Booker, Ron Wyden, and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer released a joint statement declaring their intention to release a draft discussion bill outlining how best to legalize and regulate cannabis and cannabis commerce in a post-prohibition America. Progress is slowly rolling through the country, but not quick enough for the hundreds of thousands of people, primarily Black and brown, who are locked up everyday for marijuana related offenses. We must get blunt about cannabis justice and continue to apply pressure for decriminalization on the federal level. [SIGN THE PETITION](
[Sign the petition NOW. We must act now for so many black and brown people facing the injustice of minor marijuana offenses.]( Millions of people have been impacted by the war on cannabis. Hundreds of thousands of Black and brown people are imprisoned, torn from their families, no longer qualify for federal student aid, lose their right to vote, and then struggle to financially sustain themselves when they are released. It is time for this bogus war to end. [Add your name to urge Congress to pass the MORE Act.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Keep fighting,
Cayana Mackey, Daily Kos --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, April 20 or 4/20 is significant in cannabis culture as a day of celebration for all things marijuana. While some states can fully embrace the cannabis celebration, other states still see marijuana possession and consumption as a Schedule 1 drug. Even in states that have legalized recreational and medical use, Black people are still [more likely]( to be arrested for possession than White people. We must get blunt about cannabis justice and apply pressure for decriminalization on the federal level. [Sign the petition NOW. Decriminalization must have equity at its heart. Thatâs why weâre calling on Congress to support the MORE Act, which would make cannabis legal and expunge prior cannabis convictions. Letâs apply pressure to Congress to decriminalize at the federal level and create a cannabis industry that benefits all of us.
