Friend, the right has launched an all-out assault on our voting rights, an attempt to usurp this power from the American people, just as young voters and voters of color are showing up in record numbers and turning the tide of elections. With the right to vote comes the power to set the vision for this nation and choose who gets to carry it out, the power to demand changes in the law so that more people are protected from harm and discrimination, the power to make sure all American taxpayers are fairly represented in our government. The late Congressman John Lewis was willing to lay his life on the line to ensure that the fundamental right to vote was extended to everyone, equitably and fairly. Even death can't stop John Lewis’ crusade. This Saturday, May 8, Americans across the nation are taking to the streets to demand Congress break down barriers to voting and pass the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and D.C. statehood. [More than 100 votercades will be rolling in more than 100 U.S. cities to ignite support for these voting rights and democracy reform bills, but we need at least $25,000 more to ensure each votercade has the personnel and materials needed to run smoothly. Please chip in $5 to the Transformative Justice Coalition to make this John Lewis Day of Action a success.]( People from every region of the country are coming together to fight back against voter suppression, demand protection and expansion of voting rights, and restore power to the American voter, no matter how big or small their bank account is. In order for this country to live up to its ideals of a government for the people and by the people, we must demand passage of the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and grant the people of Washington, D.C. the representation they deserve. We must also demand the end of one of the greatest obstacles to civil and voting rights legislation -- the Jim Crow relic, the filibuster. [More than 100 organizations, including Daily Kos, have teamed up with the Transformative Justice Coalition to lead the John Lewis Day of Action votercades on Saturday, May 8. We need you to make a meaningful donation to ensure this day of action for our voting and civil rights is successful.]( Keep fighting, Irna Landrum, Daily Kos P.S.
