Friend, we awoke on Friday to the devastating news of another mass shooting—this time at a FedEx facility in Indiana. The U.S. Senate cannot just sit on their "thoughts and prayers" when it comes to gun violence. We must demand action NOW, for our SAFETY! [Sign and send the petition to the Senate: Protect us from gun violence. Pass background checks.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Late Thursday night, [April 15th](, a shooter took the lives of eight people and injured five before taking his own life in Indianapolis. The tragedies continue... On April 16th fourteen years ago, 32 students and faculty members at Virginia Tech lost their lives. After this shooting we called on Congress to change gun laws. Nothing happened. We have had to [confront]( mass shootings after mass shootings that highlight the MASSIVE gun violence problem in this country. We will not let Congress get away with doing nothing again. The House just passed two very important background check legislations: the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021 and the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021. These bills will now head to the Senate and are backed by almost ALL American voters with [90% support](. We must demand action NOW! [Sign and send the petition: Demand your Senator support and pass background check legislations and save American lives.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Erin Tulley, Daily Kos P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier demanding the Senate take action against gun violence: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, [sign and send the petition to the Senate: Protect us from gun violence. Pass background checks.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Each year, more than 100,000 Americans are victims of gun violence, and more than [40,000 people are killed](. Without background checks it is almost impossible to keep guns out of the hands of prohibited individuals or to hold illegal gun dealers accountable. Gun violence is preventable and Congress can act now to protect us. In 1993, the Brady Background Check System was passed, preventing more than 3.5 million prohibited gun transactions. In the years after the Brady Law was passed gun homicide rates were cut by almost half, falling an astonishing 46% from 1993 to 2001. But Congress can do even more to expand background checks and help prevent gun violence. [Sign and send the petition: The Senate must act now to protect us from gun violence.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( The House passed two very important background check bills: the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021 and the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021. These bills will now head to the Senate and are backed by almost ALL American voters with [90% support](. These two gun safety bills will close dangerous loopholes in our country's background check laws and help reduce access to guns that are responsible for dozens of deaths daily. We must demand the Senate pass both background check legislations and help deliver the first major federal gun safety law in over 25 years. [Sign and send the petition: Demand your senators support and pass background check legislations and save American lives.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Erin Tulley, Daily Kos Daily Kos Relies on Readers Like You We don't have billionaire sugar daddies like some right-wing media outlets.
