Friend, Fox News reached a new low last week when Tucker Carlson fervidly defended the ["replacement theory"]( -- a white nationalist conspiracy theory that immigrants are entering the country to replace the "white vote." Carlson whined that “Every time they import a new voter, I become disenfranchised as a current voter." [Carlson was celebrated by white supremacists]( for his bigoted rant. In the days afterwards, organizations like the Anti-Defamation League and public pressure called for Carlson's firing. However, Fox News didn't just ignore these calls, they [defended]( what Carlson said. Those in charge at Fox News don't care what Tucker Carlson says and it doesn't matter how many advertisers threaten to leave the media company over his racist language. See, unlike other media companies, Fox News doesn't rely on advertising dollars for the bulk of their revenue. Instead, they rely mostly on the [“carriage fees”]( cable companies pay so that Fox can be part of their package of bundled channels. In fact, Fox commands the highest carriage fees in cable news! This has allowed them to avoid the economic fallout that has rocked the media industry for years and the resulting layoffs all while they continue to push their harmful agenda. [Daily Kos also has a different business model; nearly half of our revenue comes from our readers and activists that give $5, $10 and $20 at a time. We couldn't continue doing the work we do every day without your support. The need for progressive, independent media has never been greater than at this moment. At Daily Kos, we work hard to be a news source you can trust because we are accountable to you. We expose the lies that right-wing media outlets use to fuel their racist agenda, then we deliver the facts and ways to take action in support of them.
