On Friday, April 9, we learned that Amazon workers lost their union bid in Bessemer, Alabama. However, as ballots from their union drive were counted -- and many were contested by Amazon -- [reporting exposed]( how Amazon had worked to stack the deck in its favor. Throughout the union drive, Amazon made several attempts to undermine the organizing efforts of its workers, underscoring why we need better labor protections for workers nationwide. Fortunately, if the PRO Act were passed, this would mean huge gains for workersâ rights. Help us get this important labor bill passed by writing a personalized letter to your members of the U.S. Senate. [Sign and send if you agree: Workers should be able to organize for better work protections and conditions without fear of employer interference. Friend, House Democrats just [passed]( the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act â critical labor law reform legislation that would help restore workersâ rights to join a union and bargain for better wages, benefits, and safer workplaces. Now the bill is headed to the Senate. As long as the filibuster remains intact, we will need every Democrat and at least 10 Republicans to pass the PRO Act. Help clear a path for this game-changing legislation by sharing your support for it with your U.S. senators. [Sign and send a petition to your U.S. senators: Pass the PRO Act to protect workersâ right to come together and fight for better pay, quality health care, a safer workplace, and a secure retirement.]( [SIGN AND SEND A PETITION](
As Black workers in Bessemer, Alabama decide whether they will become the [first Amazon warehouse to unionize](, the corporate behemoth is attempting to block organizing efforts and intimidate workers. Amazon's union-busting efforts reflect a wide range of legal and illegal tactics U.S. companies routinely use to suppress the rights of their workers to form unions and collectively bargain with their employers. Whether we are Black, brown or white, young or old, in big cities or small towns, we work hard for our families and our future. The PRO Act would close loopholes in current law that allow employers to get away with efforts to undermine working people, forcing so many of us to work paycheck-to-paycheck at unsafe worksites. It is the most significant worker empowerment legislation since the Great Depression. Key elements [include](:
- Giving workers more control;
- Imposing real penalties when employers break the law;
- Creating a roadmap to a first union contract;
- Strengthening workers' ability to strike;
- Repealing âright to workâ laws.

While the richest Americans' wealth growth has [increased]( by more than 200 percent, and wealthy corporations like Amazon see their profits and revenues skyrocket, wages remain stagnant for working families who struggle to make ends meet. It's time to put power back into the hands of people who power our economy. House Democrats have passed the bill and President Biden is ready to sign it into law. So now we need to get it through the Senate. If we can make this happen, workersâ right to form a union and bargain collectively will be protected for generations.
