--------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, The winter storm left Texans

[Sign MoveOn’s petition and demand that Governor Abbott and the Texas Legislature take the burden of their failures off of Texans by forgiving all utility bills for last month.]( [SIGN ON]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, The winter storm left Texans suffering with no power, water, or food. In this time of crisis, predatory energy companies responded by gouging prices, bankrupting already-hurting Texans. Texans froze and starved to death, while Republicans like Governor Abbott tried to deflect blame onto green energy, even though the state and its power grid run mainly on fossil fuels. We know the truth: Republicans have made sure that Texas continues to run on the same fossil fuels that are causing this climate catastrophe. Communities of color and rural communities in Texas, which were already under-resourced, have been disproportionately impacted by this crisis. How did Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who should have been connecting his constituents with emergency services as they froze and starved with no power, respond? By abandoning his constituents for a vacation to Mexico because he couldn’t think of any way he could use his power as a U.S. senator to help Texans in need. Leaders like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Beto O’Rourke, and Julián Castro stepped in and showed him what is possible by collectively raising over $6 million in relief funds for Texans. Republicans spent more time blaming the climate crisis in Texas on the Green New Deal, a climate justice proposal that hasn’t even been adopted in Texas, than meeting the needs of their constituents. If Republicans wanted to prevent millions from suffering, they could have. Instead, they did not prepare, because they put corporate profits over Texans and did the fossil fuel industry’s dirty work by deregulating Texas energy, paving the way for energy companies to take advantage of their constituents during a climate catastrophe. [That’s why we’re asking you to take action to demand that Gov. Abbott and the Texas Legislature take the burden of their failures off of Texans by forgiving all utility bills this month!]( [SIGN ON]( Thanks for all you do, MoveOn Paid for by MoveOn.
