Underreported and under prosecuted, our criminal justice system routinely fails the victims of gender-based violence. Our failure to respond without sufficient force to these crimes is shameful and wrong. [ADD YOUR NAME TO THE NEW YORKERS FOR TALI PETITION IF YOU BELIEVE IN TRANSFORMING MANHATTAN’S RESPONSE TO GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Here's the email we sent you previously: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, Gender-based violence is an unacceptable crisis across the country and in New York City. Underreported and under prosecuted, our criminal justice system routinely fails the victims of these crimes. As Manhattan District Attorney, I’m committed to transforming the DA’s response to gender-based violent crime, starting by establishing a Bureau of Gender-Based Violence (BGBV). The Bureau will house the Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence units, which will be united under a shared mission: a sustained commitment to the investigation, prosecution, and reduction of this violence. [ADD YOUR NAME TO THE NEW YORKERS FOR TALI PETITION IF YOU BELIEVE IN TRANSFORMING MANHATTAN’S RESPONSE TO GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Our failure to respond without sufficient force to these crimes is shameful and wrong. For example, the NYPD was found to have underfunded and understaffed its Special Victims Division for the better part of the past decade. Meanwhile, although the District Attorney’s office formed a Domestic Violence Task Force in 2014, the office has since not issued an update on progress or outcomes. Failure to respond adequately to gender-based violence leaves New Yorkers unsafe, plain and simple. It erodes public trust, and it exacerbates other systemic injustices. [ADD YOUR NAME TO JOIN TALI’S FIGHT TO ESTABLISH A BUREAU OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN MANHATTAN]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( I’m establishing the Bureau in direct response to these issues — and move forward toward a District Attorney’s office that advocates for victims, acts with transparency, and ultimately reduces the violence. I hope you’ll join this fight today, Tali Farhadian Weinstein Paid for by New Yorkers for Tali. Does not equal endorsement. Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612. Sent via [ActionNetwork.org](.
