Friend, even as Fox News viewers start to dwindle, more extreme right-wing media outlets like OANN and Newsmax are growing in popularity—continuing the right-wing stranglehold on our news media. These far-right media outlets are eager to peddle conspiracy theories, misinformation and lies for their own profit. These conspiracy theories can lead to real harm, but the outlets pushing them show no remorse, even as OANN was [suspended]( from Youtube for promoting a bogus COVID-19 cure and is facing a [defamation lawsuit]( for spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. As right-wing media pushes ever-wilder and more dangerous theories into the American mainstream, the need for independent, progressive media that is based in facts grows. That's where Daily Kos comes in. [Daily Kos doesn't have billionaire backers or big corporate sponsors. Small contributions from readers and activists like you are our biggest source of income. That's why I'm asking you to start a $5 monthly recurring contribution to Daily Kos right now. It is the single most powerful thing you can do to support our work.]( [Can't contribute monthly? However, at the same time, smaller and more extreme right-wing media outlets, such as Newsmax and Trump's favorite, OANN, have seen a [rise in viewers](. We are starting to get a glimpse of what post-Trump right-wing media will look like, and it's worse than one can imagine. One would expect that media outlets like Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN, would go from being Trump's top defender to being Biden's loudest critic, but currently they are echoing and [defending the conspiracy theories of QAnon.]( These right-wing media outlets have been a catalyst in the spread of disinformation. All of them feeding their audiences Trump's lies about the election being stolen, building up to the attack on the Capitol a few weeks ago. An attempt to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's victory, and allow Donald Trump to stay in power despite the results of the election and the will of the people. The influence of these right-wing media outlets is frightening. A [poll from late December]( shows that even though 83% of Americans are concerned about the spread of false information, 39% of Americans believe that there is a "deep state" that tried to undermine Trump. There is a clear need for independent, progressive media, like Daily Kos. We deliver news you can do something about, providing our readers with the facts, independent analysis, and the tools to take immediate and effective action to make change. [Daily Kos is the biggest independent, progressive news outlet in the country because of supporters of like you, Friend. Grassroots contributions account for nearly half of our operating budget. That's why I am asking you to support progressive media by giving $5 a month to Daily Kos.]( [We understand if you can't give monthly, a one-time contribution still goes a long way in supporting Daily Kos.]( Keep fighting, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
