If Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed to the Supreme Court, the results would be catastrophic for the climate movement and more critically, frontline communities whose homes have already or are in the process of disappearing due to exacerbated climate change. Barrett and a conservative Supreme Court could gut the EPA of its power to regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant. Lindsey Graham and Republican Senate Judiciary Committee members just cast the first vote in support of Amy Coney Barrett and she could be confirmed as soon as next week. We cannot let Republicans’ nominations sham destroy decades of progress protecting our climate. Our lives are on the line. EPA. Barrett could side with fossil fuel companies like BP Oil, Shell, and Exxon, which specifically have known about the dangers of fossil fuels to our climate for 40 years. Our country has come a long way: we are holding climate crisis profiteers accountable for exacerbating climate change and pushing for bold solutions that center frontline communities and collective resilience in the Green New Deal. We cannot allow a conservative Supreme Court undo decades of progress.
