Friend, Senate Republicans are moving at unprecedented speed to consider Trump Supreme Court nominee

Friend, [sign and send the petition to your U.S. Senators: The right to vote is at stake. Do not rush a sham process.]( [Sign and send the petition]( Senate Republicans are moving at unprecedented speed to consider Trump Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett—even though millions of Americans have [already started voting]( in the next presidential election. Her confirmation would be a disaster to our voting rights. Barrett assisted the Bush campaign in 2000 during the [Florida recount](, as a lawyer with the firm of Baker Botts. The Bush campaign got the U.S. Supreme Court to stop ballots from being counted in Bush v. Gore, in one of the most shameful chapters in our democracy. Donald Trump has threatened to challenge the results of the upcoming election in court, and said he wants his Supreme Court justice confirmed to have a say in the outcome. Barrett's past involvement in Bush v. Gore alone should disqualify her, and at least compel the U.S. Senate to postpone any confirmation vote until after a new president has been sworn in. [Sign and send the petition to your U.S. Senators: Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court would be a disaster to our voting rights, and it is outrageous to rush through a sham confirmation before a new president gets inaugurated in January.]( [Sign and send the petition]( But this goes way beyond the results of this election, and Barrett on the Supreme Court would only further empower right-wing efforts at voter suppression. The Republican governor of Texas has just moved to restrict absentee ballot [drop-off locations]( to one per county, which will severely disenfranchise people of color who are concentrated in large urban counties. This would not have been possible if in 2013, a 5-4 conservative majority of the Supreme Court had not gutted parts of the Voting Rights Act. And the Supreme Court [already plans]( to take up a challenge to a racially discriminatory [Arizona law]( that made it substantially harder for Latinos & Native Americans to vote. A 6-3 conservative majority on the Court could very well use this opportunity to [overrule what remains]( of the Voting RIghts Act. Barrett's [record on this]( is discouraging. [Sign and send the petition to your U.S. Senators: No sham, rushed process to confirm a Supreme Court Justice. Too much is at stake. Let the voters decide first.]( [Sign and send the petition]( Keep fighting, Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos Daily Kos Relies on Readers Like You We don't have billionaire sugar daddies like some right-wing media outlets.
