Friend, Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins has long been seen as a moderate Republican that has supported a person's right to abortion access -- until now. On October 6, 2018, the Senate voted 50-48 to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, despite an alleged sexual assault and evidence that he was not fit to hold a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court of the United States. Senator Susan Collins was the decisive vote in his confirmation. In an interview with ["60 Minutes"]( in early October 2018 Collins explained her vote by saying after personally questioning Kavanaugh for hours: "I could not vote for a judge who has demonstrated hostility towards Roe v Wade because it a indicates a lack of respect for precedent" In other words, she believed that Kavanaugh, even though [his judicial history]( says otherwise, would vote to uphold the right to an abortion because of the precedent that Roe v. Wade set and that Planned Parenthood v. Casey later affirmed. Susan Collins was wrong. Even though the [Supreme Court voted 5-4]( to strike down Louisiana abortion restrictions, Kavanaugh voted to uphold those abortion restrictions. [Susan Collins cowed to Mitch McConnell and Trump when she voted to confirm Kavanaugh and thanks to her, we are stuck with him. But we don't need to be stuck with her. Collins is up for reelection this November, along with 22 other Republicans that voted to confirm Kavanaugh. Democrats only need to pick up three seats to win control of the Senate. Daily Kos has identified key Senate seats that we can flip -- including the one held by Susan Collins. Can you give $1 to each of these candidates so we can win back the Senate and prevent any more judges like Kavanaugh?]( Keep fighting, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
