Friend, we are in the middle of the worst national health crisis in a century. The daily record for the number of new, confirmed nationwide cases of COVID-19 was broken twice in just the last week. At least two states, Florida and Texas, have begun closing parts of their economies again. What is Trump's response to this health crisis? Attempt to take away health insurance from over 23 million Americans. On Thursday, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court of the United States [to overturn the entirety of the Affordable Care Act](, This is incredibly stupid and dangerous. Not only do 23 million Americans get their healthcare coverage through the ACA, nearly [half a million]( Americans have enrolled in Obamacare after losing their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [For over a decade, Daily Kos has generated millions of petition signatures, letters, and phone calls to expand healthcare at the federal and state level, and to protect the Affordable Care Act (which is not perfect) from Republican attacks. In 2020, we are bringing this fight to the ballot box; we can put an end to Trump's legal challenges and stop the Republicans from dismantling the ACA by kicking them all out of office. As Trump's team put it, "the entire ACA must fall" To be clear -- to invalidate the entirety of the law would mean ending the law's popular reforms. Overturning the entire law would abolish protections for preexisting conditions. It would put an end to Medicaid expansion that has given millions of low-income Americans access to health care. It would put an end to young people staying on their parents' insurance until they turn 26. No more lower prescription drug costs for Medicare enrollees, essential health benefits, or protections against discrimination for being a woman. We shouldn't be surprised by this move from Trump. Since his first day in office, he has worked to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. Literally, he signed an executive order instructing officials to "waive, defer, grant exemption from, or delay" implementing parts of Obamacare on his first day. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress have voted at least 70 times to "repeal and replace" Obamacare. And this would be the third time the Supreme Court has heard challenges to the ACA. [Trump and Republicans are reacting to the worst national health care crisis in a century by trying to kick millions of Americans off their health insurance. We must respond in kind by organizing millions of Americans to kick Trump and Republicans out of office. Already in 2020, over 10,000 members of the Daily Kos community have already signed up as volunteers and begun engaging in GOTV activities. We're just getting started -- this will be our biggest GOTV effort EVER.
