Friend, this past Thursday, Senate Republicans confirmed a white nationalist, Steven Menashi, to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Not only is Menashi a bigoted ideologue who is a threat to our civil liberties, but he lacks any court experience. Sen. Dick Durbin put it succinctly: "He has never tried a case. He has never argued an appeal, nor has he made any oral arguments in court. He has never conducted a deposition. He has zero experience handling criminal cases. He could not even name a single time when he observed a criminal trial." The Daily Kos community generated 23,352 calls and sent 144,132 letters to their senators demanding a "NO" vote on Menashi's confirmation. It is clear that Senate Republicans don't care about their constituents' outrage. [There is absolutely no reason why this man should have a lifetime appointment to a federal court. We need to hold the Republicans that voted for his confirmation accountable. That is why I am asking you to donate $1 to these critical Senate races to beat Mitch McConnell's majority, flip the Senate from red to blue and stop Republicans from confirming judges.]( Menashi has ties to some of the White House's worst policies. He assisted Stephen Miller in deploying his racist immigration policies. He was counsel to Betsy DeVos, helping to strip protections of rape survivors on college campus and undermined student loan programs. Menashi's appointment is key to protecting Trump from investigations from the House. Right now, the 2nd Circuit is considering whether to allow House subpoenas to Deutsche Bank and Capital One for Trump's financial records. They’re being considered now by three of the court's judges. If they decide against Trump, he can appeal for a full en banc panel to consider it. Thanks to Menashi's confirmation, Trump has a guaranteed vote in his favor. [Trump's legacy will still be affecting our lives long after he's out of office because of lifetime appointments like this. It's time Republicans pay for their actions, we need to kick them out of office.
