Friend, Brett Kavanaugh lied. Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans let him get away with it because they are determined to remake the federal judiciary in their image. McConnell's plan was clear from the moment he refused to even hold a vote on Merrick Garland, President Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court. Then, once Trump was in the White House, McConnell cemented right-wing power in the judiciary by quickly confirming Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, along with 99 district court and 43 appellate court judges. We need to impeach Kavanaugh for lying under oath and probe into the preposterous FBI background check done on him. But we must first beat the Republican senators that made Mitch McConnell's right-wing judiciary a reality. [Put an end to Mitch McConnell’s ability to block or confirm judges: Give $1 to each of the Democratic nominees in eight crucial races that will determine which party controls the Senate after 2020.]( Keep fighting, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos P.S. Below is the email we sent out a few days ago about the Senate Republicans' sham confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh: --------------------------------------------------------------- Content note: includes descriptions of sexual violence. Friend, over the weekend, news broke of another allegation that now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh drunkenly, sexually assaulted a female college classmate. The new allegation is that Kavanaugh exposed himself and forced a female classmate to touch him at a Yale party. This may sound familiar because a former classmate, Deborah Ramirez, had a nearly identical story that she brought up before Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing. Unfortunately, Ramirez's allegation was never fully investigated by the FBI. And it turns out, these latest allegations were reported to the FBI and numerous Senators, who also asked the FBI to investigate -- but the FBI did nothing. Republicans senators not only rushed the background investigation into Kavanaugh, they deliberately blocked the FBI from investigating numerous sexual assault allegations. We have to put an end to their power to confirm judicial nominees--and that means taking away their Senate majority. [Can you give $1 each to the Democratic nominee in the eight crucial races that will determine which party has a Senate majority after the 2020 elections?]( The Republican senator from Maine, Susan Collins, justified her confirmation vote of Kavanaugh by saying that the FBI investigation was ["very thorough."]( We knew at the time that this was a lie and now we have even more proof. She is up for reelection in 2020 and must be defeated. Collins isn't the only Republican up for reelection in 2020 who helped confirm Kavanaugh. North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis and Iowa's Joni Ernst sat in those confirmation hearings and listened to Kavanaugh tell [lie after lie]( about his past. They both still voted to confirm him to the highest court in the country, and now it’s time to defeat them both. Perhaps worst of all was Senator Lindsay Graham, who had an infamous red-faced tantrum during the Kavanaugh hearings, calling the proceedings a "sham" and "unethical." Turns out he was right, but not for the reason he claimed. Imagine how sweet it would be to kick Graham out of office in 2020. The confirmation hearings Senate Republicans ran were a complete sham. They failed to fully investigate these severe allegations against Kavanaugh, who lied under oath and should be impeached. However, nothing will happen if Republicans maintain their majority in the U.S. Senate. As long as they control the U.S. Senate, they can go on confirming Brett Kavanaughs--or blocking Merrick Garlands--indefinitely.
