Hey Friend, after years of repeatedly failing to properly address broken policies that hurt users, trample democracy, and undermine structural change, it's time for Facebook to have a public reckoning.
Our partners at Color of Change and Majority Action are demanding BlackRock â one of Facebook's largest outside shareholders â withhold support for the nomination of Mark Zuckerberg to the board of directors.
[The shareholder meeting is next week and we haven't hit our signature goal yet. Please take a moment to petition BlackRock to vote NO on Mark Zuckerberg today.](

Whether it's allowing live video of the white supremacist massacre at Christchurch mosques in New Zealand, excluding Black and Latinx users from seeing housing and employment advertisements, or enabling the spread of Nazi imagery in Germany, Facebook has been at the center of some of our worst moments.
Each time, the company made promises to fix its broken policies. However, despite its promises, Facebook has repeatedly failed to adequately tackle misinformation, discrimination, violent movements, and data breaches that put vulnerable communities at risk.
A large part of the problem is the dangerous concentration of corporate power that allows Facebook to operate on the whims of a single person, namely Mark Zuckerberg.
Daily Kos has teamed up with Color of Change and Majority Action to demand BlackRock â one of Facebook's largest outside shareholders â to withhold support for the nomination of Mark Zuckerberg to the board of directors.

Under Facebookâs warped system of governance, Mark Zuckerberg serves as his own boss, appoints his people to the board (whose job it is to oversee him), and he has voting rights worth ten times everyone elseâs.
Time and time again, weâve seen this concentration of power have harmful consequences:
- Two months ago, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) charged Facebook with [encouraging and enabling housing discrimination]( against Black and Latinx people through its targeted advertising practices.
- Just a few weeks earlier, Facebook allowed the white supremacist massacre at Christchurch mosques in New Zealand to be [broadcast live](.
- In Germany, WhatsApp â a platform owned by Facebook â users are [spreading Nazi propaganda](, and Facebook was found to be doing little to nothing to stop it, despite local German laws forbidding the use of Nazi imagery.
The list continues. Facebook has not effectively addressed problems that have led to litigation, regulation, settlements, and depreciation of shareholder value. It's time for structural change, beginning with Mark Zuckerberg's concentration of power.

At the 2018 shareholder meeting, thanks to grassroots organizing, 35% of outside shareholders, including Vanguard â Facebookâs largest outside shareholder, withheld their votes from Mark Zuckerberg.
On May 30, 2019, we have a huge opportunity to demand change at Facebook. If we pressure BlackRock to join investors in voting no, we have a chance to get more than 50% of outside shareholders in support of a No vote.
[Our coalition will deliver petition signatures next week. Help bring about meaningful and lasting change to Facebook. Sign the petition asking Facebook shareholder BlackRock to vote NO on Mark Zuckerberg today.](
