Friend, Pennsylvania State Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell won a special election, making her the first

Friend, Pennsylvania State Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell (D) won a special election, making her the first Muslim ever elected to that body. Her inauguration on March 25 should have been a joyous occasion, but Republicans who control the chamber decided to [humiliate her](. The GOP leadership had State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R) deliver the opening legislative prayer, prior to her swearing in—where she mentioned "Jesus" thirteen times in a prayer that was less than two minutes long. She also praised "President Trump" because he "stands beside Israel unequivocally." If you care to watch the video, [click here](. Borowicz's prayer was completely unacceptable in a government meeting. Republicans did this to humiliate their new Muslim-American colleague by wiping their bigotry in her face. Islamophobia should not be tolerated, especially when perpetrated by elected officials. [What Pennsylvania Republicans did to insult a new Muslim legislator is disgraceful. Sign the petition: America is not a Christian theocracy. Enough.]( [Sign the petition]( The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution could not be more clear: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." And the Bill of Rights extends to state governments as well, per the Fourteenth Amendment. We have freedom of religion, as well as freedom from religion. It is what the Founding Fathers intended, and it has protected us from religious tyranny. What Pennsylvania Republicans just proved is that they want us to live in a Christian theocracy, where others are not accepted.
