Red alert, friend: Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, who is the Republican nominee for governor

Red alert, friend: Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, who is the Republican nominee for governor this year, has put the registrations of 53,000 voters on hold—90 percent of whom are people of color. Kemp is using Georgia's "exact match" law to hold up registrations. This extremely strict law gives him the power to hold up registrations on which any letter, character or symbol that doesn't exactly match data from state and federal databases. Lawsuits have already been filed, but the politics of this move are clear: Democrat Stacey Abrams—the first black woman nominated for governor by a major party—is running neck-and-neck with Kemp in the polls, and disqualifying the registrations of 53,000 mostly-black voters could be a blow to her campaign. This a blatant, disgusting move by a Republican with a long history of voter suppression. [This is an all-hands-on-deck moment: Fight back against Republican voter disenfranchisement by chipping in $5 to Stacey Abrams now.]( Thank you, Michael Langenmayr, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
