Earlier this month, the five conservatives on the Supreme Court upheld Ohio Republicans' practice of purging hundreds of thousands of disproportionately African American voters from the rolls after just a few years of inactivity. Republican legislators everywhere now have a roadmap for purging millions of Democratic-leaning voters ahead of the 2020 elections. [Please sign the DLCC’s petition and stand with us to defeat these extremist Republicans who are threatening to rip away the foundation of our democracy >>]( [SIGN NOW]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, recently, the Supreme Court handed Republican state legislators across the country a roadmap for how to legally manipulate our elections by purging Democrats and voters of color from the rolls. Under Republican leadership, Ohio conducts the most restrictive voter purges in the country: Miss just one federal election cycle, and the process begins. Two years ago, Reuters studied the impact of Ohio's purges, and their findings shocked the nation: “Voters have been struck from the rolls in Democratic-leaning neighborhoods at roughly twice the rate as in Republican neighborhoods,” the report found, and “neighborhoods that have a high proportion of poor, African-American residents are hit the hardest.” Purging twice as many Democrats as Republicans, while hitting African American neighborhoods the hardest, is music to Republicans' ears – and the Supreme Court just gave GOP legislators everywhere a green light to impose the exact same rules by 2020 to try and get Trump re-elected. [This November's elections are our ONLY chance to stop Republicans from using Ohio-style voter purges to rig the 2020 elections for Donald Trump and his allies. Please ADD YOUR NAME to our petition now to back the DLCC as we knock as many Republican-majority legislatures from power as possible >>]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Friend, it's critical that we act now, before Ohio's disgraceful, discriminatory voter purges become the norm in dozens of key battlegrounds. Here's what will happen unless Democrats fight back: After the Supreme Court green-lighted draconian voter ID restrictions in 2008, Republicans rushed to pass them in battlegrounds like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina – in some cases bragging publicly that the new laws were tilting elections toward Republicans. They'll do the exact same thing with extreme purges, because the party of Trump does not believe in protecting our democracy. [We have to stop them, Friend: Add your name now to fight back and defeat right-wing legislators, before it's too late >>]( [ADD YOUR NAME TO THE PETITION]( Thanks, DLCC Team Paid for by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC).
