Dear Friend, Several progressive organizations have endorsed Cynthia Nixon for Governor of New York, and current NY Governor Andrew Cuomo is PISSED. He's threatening anyone who seeks to support these organizations, effectively killing wide-scale community organizing in the state. [This is childish. Add your name to tell Governor Cuomo that he's a public official and needs to respect his residents' political choices.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( I'm sure it's difficult for Governor Cuomo to learn that a number of long-standing and powerful actors in the progressive space -- including New York Communities for Change, Make the Road Action, Community Voices Heard Power, and Citizen Action of New York -- are supporting his political challenger. Maybe it even hurts his feelings, and that's completely understandable and appropriate. What's not appropriate is his declaration that "if unions or anyone else give money to these groups, they can lose [his] number." C'mon, Cuomo. Let's be reasonable. The fact is that some New Yorkers find Cynthia Nixon to be the better choice, and that's totally fine. Though Cuomo is working swiftly to pass progressive measures recently, Nixon's campaign priorities include building relationships with marginalized communities, rent and housing justice, fixing the egregious delay issues with the subway system, and legalizing cannabis. These are important issues that matter to New Yorkers, and voters and organizations have every right to select the candidate most aligned with their values. Holding the title of Governor of NY is not a right, it's a privilege determined by the public. And endorsements from progressive organizations is nothing new. That these organizations didn't choose to endorse Cuomo is not a justifiable reason to use his power to destroy them financially, and subsequently end the critical work they do for immigrant rights, housing justice, low-income workers, and bettering families. It's just not right. [Andrew Cuomo needs to check his ego and consider what's best for all of New York. Sign here to remind him of that, and protect the progressive organizations he seeks to quash.]( [SIGN NOW]( Keep fighting, Kelli Soto, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
