Friend, Ohio is scheduled to execute W.T. Montgomery on April 11, despite serious questions about whether he committed the crimes for which he received a death sentence. Significant doubts about the [validity]( of the conviction led the Ohio Parole Board to vote to commute Montgomery’s sentence to life without parole. But it’s up to Ohio Governor John Kasich to affirm that decision and not execute William Montgomery. [Add your name: Tell Ohio Governor John Kasich to stop Montgomery's execution. There is #TooMuchDoubt.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Despite maintaining his innocence, and staggering doubts about his guilt, Montgomery has been on death row for more than 31 years. In 2007 – more than twenty years after he was sent to death row – Montgomery was granted a new trial after a court ruled that prosecutors in his original trial withheld key evidence that could have proven his innocence. That new trial never happened. Even more evidence has come to light suggesting that the state’s entire theory of the case is scientifically impossible. The execution of an innocent person is irreversible. Montgomery should be granted a new, fair trial. [Add your name: Tell Ohio Governor John Kasich to stop Montgomery's execution. There is #TooMuchDoubt.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( The death penalty is ineffective, unfair, and inaccurate. It is applied in an unjust manner, largely dependent on the accused's race, income, and ability, and whether the victim is white. It depends on a biased justice system. For the families of victims, it's a painfully protracted process. For all of these reasons and more, public approval of capital punishment continues to decline. Governor Kasich needs to know the world is watching. Our partners at Equal Justice USA and Ohioans to Stop Executions will deliver the petition to Gov. Kasich next week. Please add your name today.
