Friend, [sign and send this urgent petition: Stop insuring Rio Grande LNG now!]( Rio Grande LNG is a proposed methane gas export terminal slated for Brownsville, Texas, in the [Rio Grande Valley](. This project is a [clear case]( of environmental racism, with enormous, devastating impacts on community health, Indigenous rights, endangered species, and our shared climate. Frontline and Indigenous communities have been fighting methane expansion in the region—and this project specifically—for years. But the company is moving ahead, even going so far as to [fabricate letters of support]( to submit to a federal agency (where is the accountability?). Just like we need insurance to drive a car, this project needs insurance to operate. Yet, instead of safeguarding people, insurance companies are protecting Big Fossil Fuels by covering this project. This also means, however, that the insurers have the power to stop these projects in their tracks by refusing to insure them. This might sound familiar; we won this fight before. Our collective actions convinced the previous insurer, Chubb, [to drop the project](. But now, AIG is picking up the policy and driving this climate disaster forward. [Sign and send this urgent petition to AIG: Stop insuring Rio Grande LNG now!]( [Sign and send the petition]( Insurance companies, including AIG, have a responsibility to listen to Indigenous and impacted communities and make crucial changes for people and the planet by publicly ruling out methane and Rio Grande LNG immediately. This project will not only exacerbate our already chaotic climate crisis, it poses a major public health risk and infringes on Indigenous rights. Join us and demand AIG drop this project immediately!
