I am still FURIOUS at last week's Supreme Court decision to grant sweeping immunity to presidents, friend. And I'm not just angry at the Supreme Court, either. Pundits have long been lecturing the public that fears of a Trump dictatorship are overblown. Just check out [this Politico story]( from January: Courts are necessary to wage culture wars and create a climate of fear among dissidents — the sine quo non for a dictatorship. But to move from a proto-dictator to a real one, Trump would need full loyalty from the judiciary. That’s easier said than done in America, where the judicial system is designed to put limits on the executive and judges have long tenures. Trump may have shifted the balance of power on the Supreme Court and appointed more than 200 federal judges to reshape the federal judiciary, including an impressive number of appointments to the powerful appeals court and district courts. That means by the end of his term, over a quarter of active judges were Trump appointees. I bolded the relevant line above because, well, the right-wing supermajority on the Supreme Court just showed that it is fully loyal to Trump. SCOTUS won't hold Trump accountable, so we have to hold him accountable at the ballot box this fall. [Daily Kos understands that it's on all of us to stop Trump. That's why we're working to recruit 100,000 volunteers to Get Out The Vote. We've already got more than 15,000 volunteer shifts filled, but this isn't cheap or easy work. It's a big expense at a time when news outlets and activist groups are struggling. So, please, if you haven't already, donate $20.24 right now to help offset the cost of our campaign.]( [PLEASE DONATE]( [If $20.24 is too much, please click here to donate a smaller amount.]( Thank you again, Michael Langenmayr, Daily Kos P.S. Already donated or looking for other ways to help? [Join the thousands of people who've already volunteered with us by clicking here to write postcards to drop-off Democratic voters—that is, voters who typically vote Democratic, but who don't vote in every election. We need to get them to the polls this fall!]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, today the right-wing supermajority on the Supreme Court declared that presidents have sweeping immunity from prosecution. As Justice Sonia Sotomayor bleakly [described]( the majority opinion: "In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law." Considering that Donald Trump, who has repeatedly called for [Hillary Clinton to be jailed]( and suggested that retired General Mark Milley should be [executed](, the Supreme Court has just rolled out the red carpet for a Trump dictatorship. The only thing standing in Trump's way is us. That's why I'm writing to you today. The Supreme Court failed to hold Donald Trump accountable for his actions. Our only recourse is to hold him accountable at the ballot box. That means we NEED to get out every possible Democratic voter in November. Daily Kos is doing its part. [Daily Kos has a plan to recruit 100,000 volunteers to help Get Out The Vote, and we've already got more than 15,000 volunteer shifts filled. This isn't easy work—and it's not cheap either. It's a major cost at a time when news outlets and activist groups are hurting. That's why I'm asking you to donate $20.24 right now to help offset the cost of this campaign and beat Trump in November.]( [PLEASE DONATE]( [Is $20.24 too much? Even a donation of just $5 will help.
