Abbott [recently]( issued a pardon for Daniel Perry, who was convicted of killing Garrett Foster, an Air Force veteran, during a Black Lives Matter protest in Austin in the summer of 2020. Perry was sentenced to [25]( years in prison for the shooting, which many witnesses testified was not in self-defense. Despite this, and Perry’s documented history of making racist remarks, Abbott chose to pardon him, pandering to radical right-wing figures and undermining the judicial process.
