In that spirit, I want to introduce you to [The Christian Science Monitor](~/AASU4wA~/RgRnWHQhP0REaHR0cHM6Ly9saW5rLndoZXJlYnkudXMvMWhramYxcnVjYS8_bGhfYWlkPTQ1MjExMTkmbGhfY2lkPTE3MXpoMXhucnpXA3NwY0IKZXMj73Vld0YexVIbdHJpc3RyYW1iYWxkd2luODlAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAABa),  one of the great legacy news organizations in America, founded in 1908. The Monitor has always represented the very highest standards in journalism, and their goal has always been to “cover the news of the day with honesty and integrity.” Let me explain right away that the Monitor, its full name notwithstanding, is not a religious news organization. It’s one of several publications owned by the First Church of Christ, Scientist which has a worldwide mission, but the Monitor operates independently. It’s completely nonpartisan, like DailyChatter, yet in their news coverage they lean toward the positive; and while their reporting is always fair and honest, they also seek to find solutions to the world’s problems rather than just seeking out the conflict and suffering we’re all too familiar with these days. Let me share a personal story with you. At the beginning of my career, after I had returned from serving in the Army in Vietnam and then doing graduate study in Paris, I chose journalism for a career. I knew and admired the Monitor as all aspiring journalists did, and I very much wanted to work there. Fate, however, took me in a different direction. But I have always retained the greatest respect and affection for this wonderful American journalism institution. The Monitor shares our passion for covering the world and it’s one of the very few US news organizations that still employ reporters overseas. I’m proud to recommend the Monitor to you and I urge you to consider signing up for a subscription. When you join as a DailyChatter subscriber, you can try the Monitor for one month for free (no credit card required) to see if you like it before making a commitment.
