The Stimulus Saves the Subway—For Now

[Curbed]( TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22 Keeping the trains running [$4 Billion Down, $8 Billion to Go: The Stimulus Temporarily Saves the Subway]( Draconian service cuts are off the table for the time being, but the MTA still needs far more federal funds than it’s getting.   Photo: Spencer Platt/Getty Images   The cuts to bus and subway services threatened by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority earlier this year have been called off — for now. The federal stimulus bill agreed upon by congressional leaders over the weekend provides “more than $4 billion” in aid for the agency, according to Senator Chuck Schumer.
