Psalm 111:5 Throughout Scripture, God makes promises to his people. He promises to lead them out of slavery in Egypt, to guide them through the desert, to guide them to victories in battle. And he promises to send a Savior. Isaiah 19:20 proclaims, “When they cry to the LORD because of oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and deliver them.” On the first Christmas, this promise was fulfilled. Jesus was born, God himself in frail, human, mortal flesh. He was just like us—but without sin. His life fulfilled prophecy after prophecy, promise after promise. When Jesus died on the cross, God’s promise to deliver his people was fulfilled. Our debt to God was paid; our record of sins was erased—all thanks to Jesus! To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 And thanks to his resurrection, we know the end of life here on earth will not be the end for us: we will live forever because of what Christ has done. It’s a promise!
