From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. - Psalm 121:1–2 What must always be included on a strong resume? Your list of accomplishments. A job seeker should thoroughly review her work history and highlight the performances that showcase her abilities and positive results. In other words, brag a little about what you’ve done! In today’s Bible verses that’s what David is doing: bragging a bit, not about himself but about his God. As King David lifts his eyes to the hills outside Jerusalem, he remembers times past. David spent a great deal of time in those hills. He hid from King Saul, who was determined to destroy his successor to the throne: shepherd-boy David. In those very hills, God strengthened and protected his chosen one. David remembered it well. Thinking back to how God continually protected his younger self, David recalls another of God’s powerful accomplishments: creating heaven and earth. The Protector of small things was also the Creator of big things. God’s power is simply unfathomable! If David had lived longer he might have added much more to God’s amazing “resume”: ● Bringing dead bones to life (Ezekiel 37) ● Rescuing a man via a large fish (Jonah 1) ● Causing a virgin to conceive (Luke 1) ● Bringing dead Lazarus back to life (John 11) But the highest and greatest of our God’s accomplishments? Powerfully obliterating sin’s grip on humankind, crushing the power of Satan, and even overcoming eternal death itself—all through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, our Savior. What do you see when you look to your “hills”—your times of struggle, disappointment, and weakness? How did your powerful Lord strengthen and encourage you during those times? Talk to Jesus about it now: Jesus, I praise you for your power and sacrifice that defeated sin. Thank you for the times you have strengthened and encouraged me . . .
