She clutched at her heart as if to keep it from beating right out of her chest. Casting a quick, furtive glance behind her, Miriam gasped to catch her breath. Her lips twitched into a smile. It started out small, but the smile soon grew until her entire face glowed with unbounded joy. Capturing her breath at last, she sang!]( [Miriam sang and sang and sang! She sang in unbridled praise of Jehovah’s power—his incredible strength that sent an easterly wind, blowing throughout the previous night, parting the waters.]( [Miriam sang as she recalled with unfathomable wonder, how God’s people hurried across the seabed on dry ground. She sang as she reminded her people how Pharaoh’s army had been destroyed. Forever.]( [Yes, Miriam sang. She sang in praise of the saving power of Jehovah at work within her life—in the lives of all his people.]( [We, too, can join in Miriam’s song of joy. Why? Because together we also witness the power of our Lord. Together we marvel and rely on God’s astonishing strength, just as Miriam and all of Israel did.]( [We are sometimes tempted to compare the strength of our faith with others. Don’t! You cannot work up a strong faith by trying harder. Only the Holy Spirit can strengthen faith. Ask him to work within you as you read Scripture. Welcome the Spirit as you hear God’s Word preached and sung!
