Google acquires Fabric from Twitter
Google [announced] that it will acquire Twitter’s mobile app development platform Fabric, its Crashlytics crash reporting system, and other developer-focused properties for an undisclosed sum. Reports speculated the move is part of a strategy by Twitter to cut costs and slim down operations after an unsuccessful effort to find an acquirer last year.
Jeter’s Players’ Tribune raises $40M
[The Players’ Tribune], a site co-founded by retired Yankees star [Derek Jeter] that features content from athletes, has raised $40 million in a round led by IVP and joined by other new and existing investors, Fortune [reports]. The New York-based startup, founded in 2014, has raised a total of $58 million to date.
DigiLens raises $22M for AR displays
[DigiLens], a Silicon Valley-based developer of optical technology for augmented and virtual reality displays, has [raised] $22 million in a Series B round funded by strategic investors Sony, Foxconn, Continental and Panasonic, along with venture backers including Alsop Louie Partners, Bold Capital and others.
