Wim Wenders has created a hypnotic portrait of Anselm Kiefer, one of the most innovative and important painters and sculptors of our time. Coming in July Janus Contemporaries releases Blu-ray and DVD editions of first-run films, fresh from theaters, featuring new interviews with the filmmakers, in association with the Criterion Channel. Anselm Directed by Wim Wenders Wim Wenders has created a hypnotic portrait of Anselm Kiefer, one of the most innovative and important painters and sculptors of our time. Shot in 6K resolution, and presented theatrically and on Blu-ray in 3D, the film presents an immersive cinematic experience of the German artist’s work, which explores the overawing beauty of human existence, landscape, and myth while confronting the horrors of his country’s history and seeking to undo the postwar silence in which both artist and director came of age. Through archival footage, biographical scenes, and direct access to his subject at work, Wenders traces the arc of Kiefer’s career, provoking an engagement with creativity through the senses, the intellect, and the spirit. Available July 23 “Breathtaking . . . Wenders manages to surpass Pina with this even more remarkable portrait of an artist.” —Jason Gorber, RogerEbert.com “Exceptional . . . Anselm is so splendid as a 3D film . . . Don’t skip it.” —Alissa Wilkinson, The New York Times “A thrilling portrait of an artist at work. If you know Kiefer's work, Wenders will show you his artistry in a way you've never before seen it, and if you don't know it, Anselm will make it clear why you should." —John Powers, Fresh Air “A masterful 3D documentary. In style and insight Wenders far surpasses his earlier portrait of an avant-garde choreographer in Pina.” —Bill Stamets, Chicago Sun-Times OFFICIAL SELECTION – CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2023 OFFICIAL SELECTION – TELLURIDE FILM FESTIVAL 2023 WINNER – INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY ASSOCIATION AWARDS 2023 Best Music Score NOMINEE – CINEMA EYE HONORS AWARDS 2024 Outstanding Direction Outstanding Cinematography Outstanding Original Score NOMINEE – CRITICS’ CHOICE DOCUMENTARY AWARDS 2023 Best Cinematography For further information on Criterion and Janus Contemporaries products, please visit our website at [criterion.com.]( To start streaming the Criterion Channel, please visit [criterionchannel.com.]( If you are not already on our mailing list and would like to be added, please [click here]( to register at [criterion.com.]( To unsubscribe, [click here.]( © 2024 The Criterion Collection :: 215 Park Ave S.
