The ‘alt’ video-sharing platform has long been accused of being a disinformation mill. [Courier Newsroom]( Take a look at this headline: Fox is broadcasting tonight’s GOP debate, but the exclusive online livestream will take place on Rumble — an “alternative” video-sharing platform that has long been a hub for far-right extremism, white supremacy, election disinformation, and conspiracy theories. [In a moment, we’ll explain more about Rumble, but before we do, can you chip in anything you can so we fight back against the right-wing disinformation that will inevitably come out of tonight’s debate?]( So, what exactly is Rumble? Rumble is a video-sharing platform that positions itself as a conservative alternative to YouTube. Rumble prides itself on being “immune to cancel culture.” Users upload tons of videos that violate the content standards of mainstream social media platforms, including content that denies the 2020 election results and promotes bigoted views on race and gender. A 2022 analysis from News Guard — an organization that monitors online misinformation — found that nearly half of the videos suggested by Rumble in response to searches for common election-related keywords came from uncredible sources. In livestreaming tonight’s debate on Rumble, the RNC is knowingly driving voters to a platform where hate and propaganda spread. As we saw in 2016 and in the aftermath of the 2020 election, bad information can spread beyond social media platforms like Rumble and into communities that don’t have access to news sources they can trust. At Courier Newsroom, our innovative model is keenly focused on combating this problem. We report the truth, no matter what, and we bring that truth to vulnerable communities without paywalls or subscription fees. But if we’re going to continue to be on the frontlines of fighting back against disinformation mills like Rumble, we’ll need your help. [If you can, will you pitch in today to power Democracy’s Newsroom and the fact-based, reliable journalism behind it?]( [Donate $5 »]( Thank you! — Courier Newsroom [DONATE »]( Email us: info@couriernewsroom.com This email was sent to [{EMAIL}](#). Email is a critical way we communicate with grassroots supporters like you.
