We’re dedicated to restoring trust in our democracy — not tearing it down. [Courier Newsroom]( Donald Trump is spreading bad information in real time — and the mainstream media is helping him do it. We’ll explain why in just a moment, but first, [can we count on you to support Courier Newsroom by chipping in $5 right now? Your support is critical to our ability to counter Donald Trump’s misinformation in the 2024 Presidential campaign.]( This weekend, Trump announced on the right-wing social media platform Truth Social that he’ll be arrested. In his familiar, belligerent, ALL-CAPS style, Trump called on his supporters to "PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!”, adding “WE MUST SAVE AMERICA! PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST!!!"1 His claim about an impending arrest hasn’t been verified, but, nonetheless, cable news channels took the bait. Trump’s investigation and potential arrest are dominating the primetime cable news shows and their millions of nightly viewers.  This all sounds depressingly familiar, right? Throughout his two campaigns and Presidency, the mainstream media gave oxygen to Trump’s outrageous behavior on social media to drive clicks, views, and dollars. With their help, Trump was able to spread his lies and division to a larger audience. As a result, Trump got the attention he desperately craved while stoking the dangerous political environment that led to the violence we saw on January 6th. [At Courier Newsroom, our dedicated reporters are working to counter the broken, profit-driven media landscape by serving communities stuck in ‘news deserts’ — the people most vulnerable to the mainstream media’s irresponsible coverage.
