We know there are tons of organizations and candidates you could support, but we want to explain why your donations to COURIER have a real impact. [Courier Newsroom]( As we close in on our critical January fundraising deadline, we felt it was important to bump up this message in your inbox. We know there are tons of organizations and candidates you could support, but we want to explain why your donations to COURIER have a real impact. When you chip in $5, it doesn’t go towards sensational news pieces that inflame the already deep divisions in our country. It doesn’t line the pockets of profit-driven media executives and CEOs. Your generous $5 donation goes towards publishing stories like the ones we’ve shared below. It powers real, trustworthy journalism that combats disinformation and strengthens our democracy. [Our work depends on grassroots supporters like you chipping in to close our $7,950 fundraising gap and keep our work going — so can we count on you to chip in $5 right now?]( [Chip in $5 »]( The COURIER Team --------------------------------------------------------------- It’s a persistent problem in American politics. State legislative races, ballot initiatives, city council meetings, and local political news just don't get the media coverage they deserve. Part of that has to do with money. Gubernatorial and Senate races usually rake in a lot more dough, which gets turned into ads that take over our TVs and newsfeeds. Another part is the disappearance of local newsrooms. Local newsrooms are disappearing and the ones that are left tend to cover sensational stories that get clicks and pageviews. Our mission at COURIER is to reverse this alarming trend. Our local newsrooms in eight battleground states put a heavy emphasis on state and local political news. For voters around the country in the 2022 midterm election, we became a go-to source for trustworthy information on ballot initiatives and down ballot races. [We’ll show you some of the outstanding work coming from our newsrooms in a moment. If you’re short on time though, we would be really grateful if you could chip in $5 before you go. Our work is made possible by your grassroots support:]( [Chip in $5 »]( The midterm elections might be over, but our newsrooms are still covering attacks on our fundamental rights across the country. In Virginia, Republican state legislators have ramped up their attacks on abortion rights by introducing bills that would make abortion illegal, establish that life begins at conception, and more: In Pennsylvania, constitutional amendments that could spell major changes for voting laws are moving on to the State Senate. If these amendments pass both the House and the Senate, the final decision will be in the hands of voters. And in North Carolina, abortion rights and gerrymandering are front and center. The Republican-held state legislature is getting ready to propose an abortion ban as early as six weeks into pregnancy. They’ll also have the chance to draw new congressional and state Senate districts and further cement their control. These are urgent issues that impact the lives of millions of Americans. We know they don’t get the coverage they deserve. That’s why we’re asking for your generous support. With your help, we can keep reaching voters in the online spaces where people actually get their news. [Your support powers the work of our dedicated news teams, and we can’t do this without you. Will you chip in $5 now to help us keep voters informed?]( [Chip in $5 »]( Thank you, Everyone at COURIER [DONATE »]( Email us: info@couriernewsroom.com This email was sent to [{EMAIL}](#). Email is a critical way we communicate with grassroots supporters like you.
