On World No Tobacco Day, we're looking back on 30 years of impact [GIVE NOW]( Dear Friend, In 1994, seven CEOs of the largest tobacco corporations stood before Congress under the hot glare of TV cameras and the intense scrutiny of the U.S. public. One after another, these executives swore that they didnât believe nicotine was addictive.1 And all seven of them were lying. Today, the deadliness of these lies â and of the tobacco industry itself â is widely known to the public. There are strict guidelines as to when and how Big Tobacco can market and promote its products. And a vast majority of establishments are now smoke-free. [This World No Tobacco Day, we are celebrating 30 years of impact in our campaign to challenge Big Tobacco.]( In the past three decades, we and our allies have mobilized millions of people to boycott tobacco corporations like RJR Nabisco, exposed the truth behind Big Tobaccoâs predatory marketing tactics, and waged a global campaign to secure the global tobacco treaty, which is instrumental in curbing the industryâs abuses worldwide.2 But despite our decades of success, we're not stopping any time soon. And as we celebrate the 30-year anniversary of this precedent-setting campaign, weâre feeling more energized than ever to keep challenging Big Tobacco and stopping the industry from addicting more people to its products. [So will you make a special gift today on World No Tobacco Day?]( Together we can keep making 30 years of transformative impact and protect people from Big Tobacco. Continue making Big Tobacco pay with us! [changeme]( Since 1993, Corporate Accountability International has been leading global efforts to hold the tobacco industry accountable. [Not only has our tobacco campaign set a roadmap for the larger corporate accountability movement, it has also proven that it is possible to kick corporations out and make them pay.]( In the past year alone, weâve successfully exposed multiple attempts by the industry to âhealthwashâ its image by infiltrating public health and policymaking spaces.3 Together, weâve continued advancing lifesaving policies to make Big Tobacco pay for its abuses. But in its desperation to maintain its profits, Big Tobacco is now attempting to push new tobacco products in countries where smoking rates are dropping.4 It's continuing to aggressively market its products in countries in the Global South, and interfering with public health policies that will help save the lives of millions of people. With more than eight million people still dying of tobacco-related illnesses each year, we know that the costs of the industryâs drive to addict new customers -- particularly youth -- to its products is staggering. And through our globally coordinated campaign to challenge Big Tobacco, we and our allies are keeping a vigilant eye on ending the industryâs abuses once and for all. None of our victories in the past three decades would have been possible without your steadfast support. And we need you to continue standing with us against the tobacco industry. [So make a gift today and together, we can keep holding Big Tobacco accountable for its decades of abuses.]( [Daniel Dorado] Onward, Daniel Dorado
