Today weâre diving into the oft-overlooked art of editing. Because letâs face it - your first draft probably isnât going to set the world on fire. But with these 5 sneaky editing tricks, you can turn that rough diamond into a sparkling gem thatâll have prospects reaching for their wallets faster than you can say âtake my money!â - The Ruthless Red Pen Channel your inner Gordon Ramsay and get brutal with your copy. Print it out (yes, on actual paper) and grab a red pen. Now, slash through every unnecessary word, flowery phrase, and self-indulgent tangent. Be merciless. If a sentence doesnât directly contribute to your sales message, itâs gone. Remember, youâre not writing the next great American novel - youâre writing to SELL. - The âSo What?â Test Read through your copy and after every claim or benefit, ask yourself âSo what?â Force yourself to dig deeper and connect your productâs features to real, tangible benefits for your prospect. For example: âOur supplement contains 500mg of Vitamin C.â So what? âThis powerful dose boosts your immune system.â So what? âYouâll be able to fight off colds and flu, missing fewer days of work and precious time with your family.â See how much stronger that is? Keep pushing until you hit emotional paydirt. - The Spoken Word Audit Remember what I said about reading your copy out loud? Well, hereâs where it really pays off. Record yourself reading your copy, then play it back. Listen for any awkward phrases, tongue-twisters, or spots where you naturally stumble. Those are your red flags. Rewrite those sections until they flow as smooth as butter off a hot knife. Bonus tip: If youâre writing a video script, this step is absolutely crucial. Your voice talent (or you) will thank you later. - The Pocket Thesaurus Purge Listen up, because this one might hurt a little. Take your copy and run it through a thesaurus. But hereâs the twist - youâre looking for words to SIMPLIFY, not complicate. Spot any fancy $10 words that youâre using to sound smart? Ditch âem. Replace them with simple, punchy alternatives that a 5th grader could understand. Remember, clarity trumps cleverness every time in copywriting. You want your prospect nodding along, not reaching for a dictionary. - The âWould They Really Say That?â Filter Put on your customer hat and read through your copy as if you were the target prospect. At any point, ask yourself: âWould a real person actually say this out loud?â If the answer is no, rewrite it. Your goal is to make your copy sound like a natural conversation between friends, not a stilted corporate press release. For example: Corporate speak: âOur cutting-edge proprietary technology facilitates optimal hydration.â Real person speak: âOur bottle actually helps you drink more water throughout the day.â See the difference? One sounds like a robot, the other sounds like a helpful friend. The Million-Dollar Takeaway Hereâs the secret sauce, folks. Great copy isnât written - itâs RE-written. These editing tricks are where the magic really happens. Itâs how you transform a decent first draft into a money-printing machine. So the next time you finish a piece of copy, donât hit send right away. Instead, put these 5 tricks to work. Your bank account (and your clients) will thank you. Now get out there and start editing like your paycheck depends on it⦠because it does! Till next time, Mike Giannulis P.S. Want to take your copy from good to great?
