Copywriting is NOT about the writing. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ?

Copywriting is NOT about the writing.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ {NAME} – welcome to the March edition of the Countdown to Launch Pad. I hope you completed your February Challenge, which was to fill out your [6-Figure Mindset Map](=). If not – it’s never too late to get on it. Set aside 20 mins and do it now. Btw I hope you don’t mind a little loving kick in the booty from time to time… Because my job is to help you honor your intention to join us live for the next season of the Launch Pad 💪 Like Amy, who’s making sure she doesn’t let another year slip by again… Can’t wait to see you and Amy in 2025 😉 Now, I know you’re probably ready to jump right in, learn some copywriting techniques and warm up those messaging muscles… But hold your horses because here’s something many new copywriters don’t realize… Copywriting is NOT about the writing. Huh? Yeah, read that again. The truth is… Crafting messaging is only a teeny tiny part of copywriting (which is why AI is not the threat you think it is)… In order to be a successful and highly paid copywriter, the FIRST thing you need to know how to do is get inside the hearts and minds of your customers… Only then can you truly master strategy and positioning, conceptualize persuasive hooks and craft an irresistible offer… And ALL this should happen before a single word gets written (which is why true copywriters NEVER charge per word btw). You’ll learn how to do ALL of this in the Launch Pad, but for right now, let’s dive into the most important foundation skill you need to learn as a copywriter… Market Research – our theme for March. The first thing you do when you’re tasked with writing for a client is put on your investigator hat and do some online sleuthing 🕵️‍♂️ I love to read online reviews, research common questions and objections and check out top names and brands in the niche… Basically, anything I can do to better understand the market, the brand AND the customer. While there’s a lot that goes into this step (and you’ll learn all about it in the Launch Pad)… Here’s something you can do RIGHT now to get started. This is something that ALL the great copywriters and marketers I know do to stay on top of their game… Monthly Challenge: Build Your “Inspo Folder” {NAME}, I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve signed up for someone’s email list, scrolled a sales page or clicked an ad… Not to buy something but to see good marketing in action. Then, when I see something brilliant… Boom 💥 I immediately take a screenshot and add it to my “Inspo Folder”. This is exactly what it sounds like – a folder of screenshots, emails, sales pages and ads from other people, businesses and brands that inspire me. Doing this exercise is really one of the best ways for you to learn and stay relevant as a copywriter… And it’s so easy to do because let’s face it – we’re on the internet every day. So this month, I want YOU to start building your Inspo Folder. It doesn’t matter what market or industry you look to or how many emails, web pages, ads or social posts you screenshot… Your goal is not to collect as much as possible just for the sake of it. Your goal is to start using your marketing mind to look behind the words… And think about WHAT makes it great. Then, by the time you join the Launch Pad next year, you’ll already be thinking like a copywriter 😉 Here’s a video you can check out to help you understand how important this process is for new copywriters: Watch: [10-Step Complete Copywriting Tutorial]() (With Examples, Pro Tips, and Formulas) In this video, I share the 10 things that EVERY highly skilled and highly paid copywriter does for every single piece of copy they write – before a single word is written. Insider Tip: How do you know if you’re on the right track research-wise? One of my Launch Padders asked me this after she hit some dead ends… Here’s my answer: That is the point of research – to investigate until you hit a dead end and exhaust that rabbit hole. Don’t let that stop you from moving forward. Move on to a different approach or idea. Research can be a messy process. Sometimes you get so much information. Sometimes it’s hard to find anything. The important thing is to stay curious and trust when you’ve done enough (when the law of diminishing returns sets in). As copywriters, research IS a part of our job, but it doesn’t have to be perfect (there’s no such thing). While it’s ideal to complete everything before you start writing, there’s nothing wrong with starting a first draft to get your creative juices flowing. You can always go back to your research once you have a more specific idea of what you’re trying to say or a supporting anecdote, story or stat you’d like to add. Save: Add To Your Launch Pad Stash Remember to put aside $272 this month. Don’t forget, saving $272 over 11 months means you’ll have collected the full Launch Pad enrolment fee by January 2025… (Or $79/month, so you’ll cover the first monthly payment for Launch Pad Season 6!) Even if you didn’t manage to put aside this amount in February, you can always work your way up… Just commit to an amount you’re comfortable with – anything is better than nothing 😉 The goal is to build your Launch Pad Stash so that come January, your enrolment fee is stress-free. Have fun building your Inspo Folder 😍 Alex P.S. – I need to share a VERY important disclaimer about your Inspo Folder… The point of this copywriting exercise is to find inspiration, NOT copy what others are doing. We are copywriters, not copycats, ok? Cool.
