Whether you’re writing the headline for your latest [short-form video](=)… Or trying to nail those first 140 characters of your IG post (before the dreaded "read more" cuts you off 😫)... Or brainstorming subject lines that will actually get your emails opened… Knowing how to write a [great hook]( is arguably the #1 skill every copywriter, marketer and business owner must master. In my YouTube video this week, I shared [my entire process](=) for planning, writing and creating short-form video content… And the first step is ALWAYS brainstorming a juicy hook. No, no, no. I’m not talking about the "general direction" or "topic" of the video… I’m talking about the actual title of the video… The 2-5 words that will go on the video thumbnail… And the first 3 seconds of the video itself. All of these things must work together to HOOK attention – fast. The title must open a loop that’s intriguing enough to get people to click… The thumbnail text has to be short and punchy enough to stop the scroll… And the first 3 seconds of your video must be interesting and relevant enough to keep them watching. (I go into waaaayyyy more detail about my short-form video strategy in [this video](=) if you’re keen to learn more.) So the hook is important… But HOW do you come up with a great hook? And what do you do after you’ve hooked your audience’s attention? Well like anything, writing great hooks takes practice… But here are some shortcuts you can take to make writing a hot hook a little easier and faster… Shortcut 1: Scroll through sites with notoriously click-worthy headlines. Places like BuzzFeed or Cosmopolitan and even the "trending" section of your favorite news blog can give great inspo. The Problem: Time-consuming and not always relevant. Shortcut 2: Ask ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a great place to go to get some hook inspo. Simply use a prompt like: Pretend you’re a world-class headline writer. Come up with 10 viral hooks about [topic]. The Problem: Often overly dramatic, generic or repetitive. Shortcut 3 (the best one): Use a swipe file of proven [fill-in-the-blank hooks]( (no signup required) from yours truly 😉 Try hooks like… Apparently, people still don’t know this… This is a little controversial, so buckle up… Unpopular opinion, but… Oops. I messed up… Well, I didn’t see this coming… People are obsessed with ________ and I can see why… If THIS is your strategy, you’re already doomed… People have been dying to know [why/how] ________ leads to ________. Well, I’ll tell ya… I’ll be honest… I HATE talking about this, but it needs to be said… 👆 That’s just a little sneak peek at what’s waiting for you inside this JUICY [swipe file of 99 hooks](. So {NAME}... Now that we’ve answered HOW to come up with a great hook, the next question we have to answer is… What do you do after you’ve hooked attention? Well… you need to keep and convert that attention into ACTION. In my [Write & Ignite Challenge](), I give you my 16-step framework for writing a sales page – start to finish. And unlike other "formulas" or "prompts" you find online… This one will give you the framework you need to create strong sales messaging (that actually sounds like you) 👇 So if you want to write better hooks, download my [free swipe file](… And then grab my [Write & Ignite Challenge]() for just $97 and turn those 👀 into 💰.
