In copywriting and marketing terms, a hook is exactly what it sounds like: A concept or an idea that gets people interested in what you have to say⦠and what you have to offer. Your hook has one job⦠Get your ideal customerâs attention and inspire them to take the next step. Because, letâs face it, it doesnât matter if your copy AFTER the hook is the most interesting, engaging, well-written masterpiece on the planet⦠If you canât get your prospectâs attention and get them to keep reading â does it even matter? Make These 3 Ad Hooks Even Hotter One of my favorite ways to become a better copywriter is by rewriting copy that I find online. Ads and headlines (or even subject lines) are the quickest way to do this given their length â plus itâs fun to think up new hooks and ideas. (These 5 hooks are part of the full list of hooks that I teach in the Launch Pad!) 2ï¸â£ Read the original ads below.â 3ï¸â£ Put your copywriting skills to the test and re-write your own version for each ad.â Ad #1 Ad #2 Ad #3 Posse Q&A: "Is it better to use first-person, second-person or third-person perspective in headlines?" The rule of thumb here is to speak to the customer as much as you can, which makes second-person ("you") the most preferred point of view. You can use a third-person approach to refer to a group of people that represents the customer, like⦠"Why 70% of Business Owners Make This Rookie Mistake." The only occasion where Iâd use a first-person perspective is if Iâm using a storytelling headline, like⦠"The Weirdest Job Iâve Ever Had & 3 Reasons Why I Finally Left." Clickbait is an intentionally misleading hook or headline that leads to content thatâs irrelevant, provides no value or is just straight-up lies. Great hooks are still majorly click-worthy, but they are relevant, lead to value and do not mislead! Iâve said this several times and Iâll say this again â always lead with value and use empathy and connection in your copy.
