The joys of putting yourself out there... ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

The joys of putting yourself out there... ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Year after year, I've kept a secret. Or tried to. For the last 6 years... with nearly every new once-a-year mega-promotion of Copy School... Ry Schwartz and I have filmed new free training sessions. And if you've ever watched any of those sessions and hit 'pause' during it, you already know my secret: Yup, it's what you're thinking. "Damn. Jo looks bananas in freeze frames." I do. I have an expressive face, dammit! It, uh, moves a lot. 😂 Our Production Lead now makes me hold still for 5 seconds before filming, just to ensure he'll have a decent thumbnail to use. And our Head of Product actually hired her sons during covid to pause our videos in search of usable thumbnails - it takes that much work to find me in a non-loco expression when you hit pause. 🤦‍♀️ Examples from just one video: That last one's my favorite. I'm like smarmy English-accent Jo explaining how you're using the wrong kniiiife for thaaaat kind of cheeeeese. And to be honest... I've come to kinda love my absolute inability to freeze well. It's one of many things I died over when Ry and I sat down recently to tear down our own copy. We decided that, given that this is our seventh freaking year of Copy School, and given that travel restrictions aren't what they were the last couple years, we should meet up. Open a laptop. And react to a bunch of copy we've written for Copy School over the years. 👉 We watched SIX YEARS of our "sideways sales page" videos... 👉We read through SIX YEARS of our sales emails... 👉We tore apart, cringed and laughed (until I cried) over SIX YEARS of our long-form sales pages and SIX YEARS of our webinars... And for the next seven days - in honor of the upcoming SEVENTH YEAR of Copy School - we're going to fire our reaction videos your way. A new one each day. Starting tomorrow. So if you love a good teardown... And if you'd love to see pro copywriters tear down their own copy, years after having written it... (spoiler alert: we still like some of it!) ...then make sure our emails are landing in your primary tab / safe sender zone. And meet me in your inbox tomorrow for Day 1 of Jo & Ry REACT! ~jo :) PS: Do you know how many people 1) write new emails, 2) script new sales videos, 3) script new sideways sales pages and 4) write new long-form sales pages EVERY TIME they launch something? Like, none. Except us. We write new copy every single year. Why? Because we can. We have copywriting skills at our fingertips. And you can have 'em too. Not by holding your hand to the screen and hoping for a miraculous osmosis experience. But by taking Copy School. It's reopening next week at a special throwback price -- i.e., pay what students paid in 2017 but get way more end-to-end and one-off persuasion training. Stay tuned for that dealio. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
