Tim here. I thought the Ted Lasso finale was perfect. Ted returned the elixir back to his home. Be a goldfish. --------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored This week's issue is [brought to you by Lili](=). The best online bank for freelancers and creators. --------------------------------------------------------------- How Josh and Courtney Made $16,000 In The First Month of Launching Their Business When I lived in Florida, I spent most of my time with my two best friends. Their names are Bryan and Josh, and we are still best friends today. Today, I want to tell you a story about Josh and how he turned his passion into a thriving cash machine. Let's do this. How It Started In 2016, Josh moved back to Ohio, which is where he grew up. There, he met his wife, Courtney. The two of them fell in love and started building their lives together. These are my friends. :) A few years ago, Josh and Court became interested in overlanding. Overlanding is "self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal." In English: Overlanding means driving across the country in an off road vehicle to remote destinations to camp, travel, and enjoy nature. It's a perfect lifestyle for Josh. He is the adventuring type. One day, a few years ago, he called me and told me he wanted to start a brand in the overlanding space. He created a [YouTube channel](=), an [Instagram account](, and began creating content. Native Nomads Josh called his brand "Native Nomads." He and Court began making vlogs about their travels. [This is one of his their videos](). Eventually, they started publishing product reviews and even DIY videos of Josh replacing parts and customizing his vehicles. Last year, they started documenting the [process of building out a Sprinter van](=) so they could travel in the van with running water, heat, a bed, and storage. Step by step, they built their channel and eventually created a mini recording studio in the garage. The point is that Josh didn't wait until he had the perfect set up. His YouTube channel changed many times. His single priority was to consistently publish videos that he thought the overlanding community would enjoy and iterated along the way. Many of you know the Copyblogger content mantra, which is ... "Don't give advice, but rather share your experience." That's exactly what Josh and Courtney did. Making Money You want to make money. You want to grow your brand, expand your reach, and create a business, but getting people to pay you is difficult. A lot of people don't like it when I say that "in the beginning, making money isn't as important as building an audience." But this is a perfect example as to why that is true. Josh tried many different strategies to make money and experienced many failures. But throughout the entire process, he kept serving his audience and trying different models. Josh tried all types of methods. He experimented with ... - selling affiliate products - running ads on his YouTube channel - building a social media agency that works with outdoor gear companies (I think he even got a client but realized it wasn't for him) There were many nights when Josh thought about giving up, or about accepting that "this was only a hobby". But Josh kept making content, kept growing his brand, and kept trying new things. Hitting The Jackpot Josh and Court knew there was interest because the bigger their brand got, the more companies were reaching out for sponsorships. But sponsorships were a lot of hassle and they knew there had to be a better way. Finally, they decided to build their own store. Josh created relationships with many product suppliers and Courtney taught herself how to use Shopify and built an ecommerce store called[Adventure Rig Shop](). They launched their company and made $16,000 in revenue in the month of May! Incredible. The Lesson Why is this such a success? Josh and Court succeeded because they followed the golden rule of content marketing. AUDIENCE FIRST. They knew that if they kept serving their audience by creating great content then they would establish themselves as authorities in the space. Eventually, they would find a business model that worked for them and ultimately, they took matters into their own hands by building a brand that they own, they control, and that gives them leverage in the industry. They kept building, experimenting, iterating, having fun and eventually, they discovered the model that their audience wants. As a result, they're now making a ton of money. Josh and Courtney are proof that content marketing works. This is the exact method I have used to grow all my companies. It's the same story over and over again. It works, if you're willing to be patient and to execute. If they can do it, then so can you. Now go. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. On the flight, I was thinking a lot about this potential deal I wanted to close for my personal brand. I spent the flight outlining concepts in my notebook and brainstorming ways I could make this deal work. On the flight, I sent an email to the person I was pitching. I presented him my idea, told him how much I would charge, and explained to him why I thought this deal would be very valuable for his company. At the end of the email I asked "is this crazy?" When I got to the hotel, I saw he responded. He said ... "Tim. Not crazy. I like this. Let's do it." And just like that, I booked a 12 month deal for $120,000. How did I do it? It's simple ... I asked. What's the best way to get what you want? The answer is to ask for it. I see countless people who dream about what they want, they visualize what it would be like to get it, they dream of a better future, but they never ask for what it is they want. This week, I challenge you to ask. Ask for the sale. Ask that girl or guy out on a date. Ask for the raise and most importantly, don't start off your ask by saying "I'm sorry, but is it okay if ...". Simply hold your head up high and ask for what it is you want. Most times, the answer will be no. But sometimes, the answer will be yes. You'll never know unless you ask for it. Love you guys. I'll talk to you next week. Tim Give us 30 Minutes, And We'll Transform How You Sell Online. [Click here]( for a free conversion audit.
