Tim here. My Succession prediction is that Shiv takes the whole company. --------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored This week's issue is [brought to you by Lili](=). The best online bank for freelancers and creators. --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. How To Turn Your Content Into Cash Most of you have no problem publishing your content. Your biggest barrier to success is bridging the gap between building an audience and generating sales. This week, I will give you two simple yet effective strategies that will convert your traffic into customers and clients. These methods are ridiculously simple. All you need to do is copy the process. Let's do this. Teaching Sells You probably recognize that phrase. "Teaching sells" was the title of one of the most successful products in the history of Copyblogger. Teaching sells was a flagship product of ours, and Brian Clark devised an entire method that would help you serve your audience while also generating sales. In summary, we build our audience by teaching "the what", and then we monetize our business by selling "the how." When reading this concept, you most likely gravitate towards the teaching. This is comfortable for you. By teaching, you get to create content, serve your audience, and give away value. Obviously, this is a critical aspect of building your audience. You need to always put your audience first, and by teaching them what you know, you are generating trust, building your authority, and creating a loyal following of people who see you as a resource in your industry. That's where it usually stops. I see too many of you stop at the teaching. You struggle to jump to the next stage of the process, which is to sell. If you're going to spend time and effort creating great content, then you want to get a reward from it, don't you? I want you to commit to selling. I want you to implement these basic guidelines into your business so that you can turn your hard work into cash money in your back account. The DM and Outreach Approach One of my biggest avenues of revenue generation is through the Twitter DM. No, I don't cold DM strangers and I don't beg people for money. First, I used Zapier and created a zap that imports all my new followers into a spreadsheet. It's a simple zap that you can see below. Every morning I go to the spreadsheet and I DM the people who followed me. I do 30 seconds of research for each account. Many times, the account is not worth reaching out to, so I simply delete the handle from my spreadsheet and move on. For the accounts who are worth reaching out to, I strike up a conversation and ask them what they are working on. Almost inevitably, the person will respond and eventually ask me a question. I then try to help them with whatever problems they have, learn about them, and in time I will kindly tell them about my services and about Copyblogger Academy. You would be shocked at how many sales I have generated this way. Remember, the content (or the teaching) is what generated the lead in the first place, but it's still up to me to be proactive and sell. The Automation Approach You hear me talk about email automation every week, and yet I see so few of you execute on this. You already know you have to collect email addresses. Once you have someone's email, you can then send them a weekly newsletter, alerts on new content, or even sales emails. Regardless of your method of email marketing, there is no reason not to have an automation. For TGS Digital (my personal consulting company) the entire business is built off the back of one email. When someone signs up for my newsletter, they are then sent about 10 days worth of helpful content. On the tenth day, they are sent this email. The link in this automation has a 2.9% click through rate. The people who click on the link are then sent to a simple lead collection form. This form collects their contact info, their website, and gives me a brief understanding of their goals. Once a lead comes through, I call it RIGHT AWAY! Guess what? This is how my entire consulting business is built. No ads, no cold outreach, no spam. I teach AND THEN I sell. Don't skip the sales. Sales Is A Numbers Game I get it, sales are uncomfortable. It would be so much easier if we could simply write our content, publish our ideas, and then watch the money pour in. But that's not how business works. In business, you have to promote yourself because if you don't, the people who are promoting themselves will get the clients that you wish you had. The trick is to remove the emotion from it. You simply look at outbound sales as a set of daily tasks. For instance, I send 10 Twitter DMs every day. I don't think about it much harder than that. 10 a day, no matter what. With this mindset, the rejections don't matter as much because the rejection doesn't stop me from sending 10 more DMs the next day. I think of my inbound leads the same way. Once someone reaches out to me, I then call them and continue communicating with them for weeks. I'll set reminders to myself to say hi and keep in touch with people who didn't turn into clients. I keep track of the conversations in a spreadsheet and because of this, it's common for people to turn into clients after months or even years of back and forth communication. My system isn't complicated. I don't spend $10,000 a month on Salesforce. I don't call people over and over again like a telemarketer. I simply teach, and then I sell. If you want to make money, you need to take this seriously. If not, then you'll end up being another starving artist. You're better than that. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. F*ck It ... We'll Do It Live! Tim and Ethan Live React to Google A.I. Demo I think this was the most fun I've had recording the pod. We had a blast. In this episode, Ethan and I watch the live presentation of Google showing a demo of how A.I. is going to interact with the search results, and of course we gave our opinions along the way. In short, there is opportunity everywhere. [Click here to listen on iTunes]() or [click here to listen on Spotify](=). (For those of you who don't get the joke, I highly recommend Googling ... P.S. - Not a member? [Click here to sign up to The Academy](=). --------------------------------------------------------------- Final Thought In 2021, I stopped daily blogging. I told myself that I was too busy and that I needed to stay focused on writing my newsletter. This week, I started up again. I've been publishing daily on my secret blog and it feels great. Sometimes, I forget that writing is more than "content marketing." Writing is thinking. You can't separate the two. Writing every day helps me process my thoughts, clear my thinking, and come up with ideas. It's been helping me a lot. I will keep going. Love you guys. Talk to you next week.
