But what does a rough draft of a blog post have in common with all of the other blog posts by all of the other content creators in your niche? Too much. I’m sure you’re aware that there are countless other writers musing about the same ideas you are, and in similar ways. The goal of a typical first draft is to transform your scattered thoughts into a cohesive article that explains a topic to your ideal reader. But why should readers choose your content over another writer’s work? That’s where editorial standards come in ... If you don’t take the time to revise your rough draft in a way that shows you have a solution that isn’t available anywhere else, they won’t. To help you narrow down the sections of your blog posts that could use improvements, here are eight common weaknesses in writing, paired with tips to strengthen each one. [Click here to read the article](=). --------------------------------------------------------------- You Don't Need to Get It Right on the First Try If you're suffering from the curse of knowledge in your content marketing and sales copy, you likely overlook subtle aspects of your customer's experience. You communicate what you think they need to know to become one of your customers or clients, but it's not necessarily what they need to hear, at this moment, at this point in their journey. So, if your existing sales copy hasn't been working well for you, there's no shame in reviewing it and treating it as a draft. This first version doesn't mean you've failed; it simply means it's a draft you can improve. And once you have a new finalized version, stay aware that in the future that new version might need revisions as well. To beat the curse of knowledge, "go back in time" and talk to a past version of yourself who needed the product or service you provide. Tell yourself what you needed to hear when you were struggling with the problem that you solve with your product or service. Before you offered this product or provided this service, what problems were you struggling with? What did you secretly care most about? What kept you up at night? You need to figure out what made you choose certain products or services over other options, and answering these questions might help you remember that you needed to hear something completely different from your current sales copy. Oftentimes, the winning details you need to express to meet your prospect at their stage of the customer journey is much more basic than what you currently have. Show them you deeply understand where they're at and the steps they need to take to achieve their desired results. Going forward, you can use these fresh, sincere elements in your blogging and other content marketing as well.
