A career that happens magically. Or by accident. A one-in-a-million scenario where a piece of your writing happens to gain popularity. You know, desperate aspirations of “going viral.” When, in fact, the exact opposite is true. There’s no sorcery. No coincidence. No random luck. If you want to be a professional writer, every choice you make needs to be painstakingly intentional. Inevitably though, we all come across challenges and hardships. This week’s guest on The Copyblogger Podcast used his hardships as inspiration to create one of the most popular podcasts right now. Bilal Zaidi is the host of Creator Lab, and he interviews world-class entrepreneurs in order to learn new skills, tips, and strategies he can apply to his own business. Copywriting is a flower. The vase is the valuable container that holds a persuasive flower (your offer). This is how content marketing and copywriting work together for your business. When you’re always thinking about what a prospect is going through, you’re positioned to meet them where they are and then guide them on their journey. In the process, you create marketing materials that are too helpful to throw away and you’ve earned a spot in your prospect’s mind. To empathize with your prospect on their journey from where they are to where they want to be, ask yourself: - What does that person think? - What does that person feel? - What does that person see? - What does that person do? Explore the answers to those questions and write them down. This type of research gives you a pool of information to pull from that helps you both generate topic ideas and choose the right words for your final copy.
